Veneers

brighten your smile

Overview

Dental veneers are personalized shells designed to cover the front surfaces of your teeth. They effectively hide cracks, chips, stains, and other cosmetic flaws. As one of the most popular cosmetic dentistry options, veneers come in various types to suit your unique needs and goals.

Veneers vs Crowns

A porcelain veneer is designed to cover only the front surface of a tooth, primarily to enhance its appearance. In contrast, a dental crown encases the entire tooth structure, providing both strength and protection.

Veneers are primarily a cosmetic treatment aimed at improving the aesthetics of your smile. They do not typically enhance the structural integrity or function of the teeth. Dental crowns, while they can also enhance the appearance of teeth, are primarily restorative. Their main purpose is to repair and protect teeth that have been significantly compromised by decay or trauma.

Procedure Details

A typical veneer procedure typically requires two visits

  1. First visit: during your initial consultation, your dentist will evaluate your teeth and gums to determine if you are a suitable candidate for veneers. If approved, the dentist will prepare your teeth by removing a small amount of enamel to ensure a proper fit. They will then take detailed impressions of your teeth, which will be sent to our partner dental laboratory for the fabrication of your custom veneers.

The production of veneers at the dental laboratory typically takes a few weeks. If needed, your dentist can provide temporary veneers to protect your teeth during this period. Once the custom veneers are completed, they will be sent to your dentist’s office for final placement.

  2. Second visit: your dentist will check the shape, colour and fit of your veneers, then permanently bond them into place using dental cement. Finally, they’ll check your bite and make any necessary adjustments.

Caring for Your Veneers

  • Brush at least twice a day using a soft-bristled toothbrush

  • Use antibacetrial mouthwash at least twice daily

  • Never use your teeth as tools

  • Visit your dentist for routine cleanings and exams

Types of Veneers

  • Used to conceal mild cosmetic imperfections. Your dentist will use a tooth-colored composite resin to achieve desired results.

  • Custom-made to fit your dental anatomy. Before placement, your dentist must remove some enamel from your natural teeth which roughens your teeth surfaces and helps the veneers stay in place.
