Tooth Bonding

brighten your smile

Overview

Dental bonding, also referred to as composite bonding or teeth bonding, is a cosmetic dentistry procedure designed to improve the appearance of your smile. During the treatment, a dentist applies a tooth-colored resin material to the affected teeth, effectively modifying their shape, size, or color to achieve the desired aesthetic result.

Professional teeth whitening performed by your dentist can achieve brighter results more quickly. The bleaching solution used in-office is typically much stronger than what’s available in at-home kits. Additionally, our dentist further enhances the process by using heat, light, or a combination of both to accelerate, intensify and prolong the whitening effects.

It is a versatile procedure used to enhance the appearance of your smile. It involves applying a tooth-colored composite resin material to achieve various cosmetic improvements, including:

  • Concealing chips or cracks in teeth.

  • Masking tooth discoloration.

  • Closing gaps and spaces between teeth.

  • Lengthening the appearance of teeth.

  • Altering the shape of teeth for a more harmonious look.

In addition to its cosmetic applications, the same composite resin material is widely used in restorative dentistry to:

  • Fill cavities with a natural-looking alternative to traditional materials.

  • Replace old silver fillings for a more aesthetic result.

  • Protect exposed tooth roots caused by gum recession.

Procedure Details

During a dental bonding procedure, your dentist will follow these steps:

  1. Shade Selection: A shade guide is used to choose a composite resin color that closely matches your natural teeth for a seamless appearance.

  2. Tooth Preparation: The surface of the tooth is gently roughened, and a conditioning liquid is applied to enhance adhesion of the bonding material.

  3. Application of Composite Resin: A tooth-colored resin with a putty-like consistency is applied to the tooth, then carefully molded and shaped to achieve the desired appearance.

  4. Curing the Material: A specialized curing light is used to harden the resin, securely bonding it to the tooth's surface.

  5. Final Polishing: The bonded tooth is polished and refined to ensure a smooth, natural-looking finish.

The entire process typically takes 30 to 60 minutes per tooth.
