Overview

Dentures are removable oral appliances that replace missing teeth in your upper jaw, lower jaw or both. Dental technicians craft dentures from materials like acrylic, resin, nylon, metal and porcelain.

Denture Consultation

During a denture consultation, your dentist will conduct a thorough examination of your mouth, including your gums, jaws, and any remaining teeth.

If you are a candidate for dentures, your dentist will discuss the various options available to you. The type of denture best suited for you will depend on several factors, including:

  • The number of missing teeth.

  • How long the teeth have been missing.

  • Whether you prefer a removable or non-removable appliance.

  • The density and volume of your jawbone.

  • The alignment of your upper and lower jaws.

  • Your personal preferences.

Custom Dentures

The process of creating dentures involves several steps:

  1. Taking Dental Impressions: Your dentist will take impressions of your upper and lower jaws, including your gums and any remaining teeth. This usually involves two sets of impressions: a preliminary one and a final one.

  2. Creating a Dental Model: Your impressions are sent to our partner lab, where a technician will use them to create a stone model (replica) of your mouth. This model serves as the foundation for crafting your custom dentures.

  3. Customizing the Denture: The denture construction begins with wax registration blocks, which help determine the correct placement of artificial teeth. The technician then uses materials like acrylic, nylon, or resin to build the base of the denture. Finally, they add the artificial teeth and ensure that your upper and lower teeth fit together properly.

  4. Polishing the Denture: Once the denture is complete, it is polished to a natural-looking finish before being sent back to your dentist for fitting.

Denture Fitting

During the fitting, your dentist will place your new dentures in your mouth and check their fit. They will carefully inspect for any areas that may be causing excess pressure on your gums and make necessary adjustments to ensure comfort.

It is important to note that achieving the perfect fit may require several office visits, as the soft tissues in your mouth will need time to adapt to the dentures.

Recovery

It can take time, weeks or sometimes months, to get used to your new dentures. Keep in mind you may need several adjustments during the first couple of weeks to achieve your desired fit.
